We are excited to release the Latin ReadHer App where you can access the works of more than 30 female Latin authors alongside English translations and biographies.
The Latin ReadHer is a digital library of Latin texts by women writers of diverse backgrounds, organized chronologically from the first century B.C.E. until the close of the 18th century, and includes English translations. In this app, you’ll encounter graffiti from Pompeii, ancient curse tablets, medieval handbooks, poetry, travelogues, letters, scientific discoveries, and more.
The Latin ReadHer app widens access to this rich and under-explored transnational literature, some of which is now represented in recommended texts of the AP Latin course. The bilingual interface provides translations which helps readers of all Latin levels engage with the original text. A variety of translation styles span from grammatically precise to emotionally accurate, and one even reshapes the poem to match the structure on which it was inscribed.
