Area C is located on the acropolis of Tilmen Höyük (a 5-hectares mound rising
along the banks of the Kara Su stream in the Islahiye Valley), along its southern part
just next to the MBA Royal Palace A (Fig. 1, Pl. I: 1). Resting on the latter’s
northern boundary wall are in fact the monumental structures of area C (Pl. I: 2),
which were first brought to light by U. Bahadır Alkım during the 1960–63
campaigns and was by him denoted as Building C (Alkım 1960; 1962a; 1962b;
1962c: 458–462; 1964a; 1964b: 503–507; 1965; Duru 2003: 63–68; 2013: 88–90;
for a summary see Duru 2024); it was then restored by Refik Duru in 2002
(Duru 2003: 79-90, pls. 42-54; 2013: 108) and newly excavated by the Turco-
Italian Expedition in 2003 and 2004 (Marchetti 2004: 195; 2005: 130; 2006a: 200–
201; 2008: 354).
