Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscape online database

Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscape online database

===========================

Maps and satellite data provided by ISAC’s CAMEL Lab are now accessible on the BTAA Geoportal.

Since 2005, the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures (ISAC) has provided public access to its diverse research and object-based collections through the Institute’s Integrated Database (IDB). This collection includes more than 8,000 georeferenced maps and satellite imagery digitized and curated by the Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscapes (CAMEL), which have been of great interest and use to researchers and archaeologists across the world.

Until now, this collection could only be accessed through ISAC’s web search functionality. Through a collaboration between CAMEL, ISAC’s Research Archives, and the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), CAMEL’s public geospatial data are now easily searchable through a map-based interface, as a collection of more than 50,000 georeferenced datasets from a wide range of contributing institutions.

CAMEL’s data can be queried through the BTAA geoportal  by using the advanced search functionality on the portal and selecting the Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscapes as “Provider.” You can also simply land on the same query by using this link.

CAMEL’s maps and images remain searchable through the original ISAC text-based interface.  CAMEL will continue to expand its public digitized collection by adding more collections of georeferenced maps and imagery.
