Contributions to Biblical Exegesis & Theology, 123

The focus of this volume is Paul’s famous discussion of the resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15 and the resurrection of the dead as a broader biblical and theological theme. The topics of its 23 articles range from the roots of belief in the resurrection in the Hebrew Bible, through rabbinic concerns and New Testament statements, to later reception and theological development in early Christianity and beyond. Honouring Riemer Roukema on the occasion of his retirement, this collection reflects the research areas to which he contributed during his academic career but also touches on everyday faith in the churches he sought to serve. The volume consists of three parts: (1) Hebrew Bible and Jewish tradition; (2) 1 Corinthians 15 and the New Testament; (3) biblical reception and theological developments. As an epilogue, it closes with a sermon on 1 Corinthians 15:1–11 preached by Riemer Roukema in the Groningen academy chapel.

Argos Through the Argive Lens: A Reappraisal of an Ancient City

Argos Through the Argive Lens: A Reappraisal of an Ancient City
Sous la direction de Clémence Weber-Pallez et Evan Vance

Argos was one of the most important cities in ancient Greece—if we follow Isocrates and Strabo. However, it has generally been studied as a secondary participant compared to its more important neighbours like Athens and Sparta. This work places Argos centre-stage and attempts to see the Greek world through Argive eyes. In this volume, top specialists of Argos analyse an array of evidence (including archaeological, epigraphic, and literary, among others) using new methodologies and recent research to grant Argos its full weight. Studies traverse the local, regional, and Mediterranean scales, from the Archaic to the Imperial period, and emphasize Argos’ interactions with different actors, from the small komai (villages) of its territory to the greatest powers of the Mediterranean, such as the Macedonians and Romans, to ensure its hegemony over the northeast Peloponnese.

Open Access Journal: Corpus Masoreticum Working Papers

[First posted in AWOL 19 March 2023, updated 21 May 2026]

Corpus Masoreticum Working Papers
eISSN 2751-2894
##common.pageHeaderLogo.altText##

Biblical Masora Database).

Undena Publications Online Titles

[First posted in AWOL 9 January 2018, updated 20 May 2026]

Undena Publications Online Titles

Undena has pioneered the electronic approach to publishing.
The first issue was the Terqa Data Base, which appeared in 1987 as a floppy disk. Several other CDs have appeared in the meantime for other titles, paralleling the paper edition.
The first titles to appear online, in 2000, were BiMes 20 and SMS 5/1, through the Urkesh website.
We are now in the process of updating our online catalog to include first all titles that are out of print, then going back progressively to in clude all titles in our catalog.
The link attached to the title takes you to the full bibliographical information, the link attached to the size in MB takes you directly to the .PDF version.

Through a special project of Undena, we are publishing titles in a dual edition, simultaneoulsy online and on paper.
The paper edition is sold at a nominal price to cover only distribution costs.
The online edition is available immediately free of charge on this website.
These titles are marked on this page in red as belonging to the dual edition series.

The following four titles are also available in the Archive of Mesopotamian Site Reports of SUNY Stony Brook (AMAR), under the direction of Prof. Elizabeth Stone: BiMes 10; BiMes 13; BiMes 20; BiMes 22.

The Undena titles in the left bar are currently available online in PDF format.

AWOL is a project of Charles E. Jones, Tombros Librarian for Classics and Humanities at the Pattee Library, Penn State University

AWOL began with a series of entries under the heading AWOL on the Ancient World Bloggers Group Blog. I moved it to its own space here beginning in 2009.

The primary focus of the project is notice and comment on open access material relating to the ancient world, but I will also include other kinds of networked information as it comes available.

The ancient world is conceived here as it is at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University, my academic home at the time AWOL was launched. That is, from the Pillars of Hercules to the Pacific, from the beginnings of human habitation to the late antique / early Islamic period.

AWOL is the successor to Abzu, a guide to networked open access data relevant to the study and public presentation of the Ancient Near East and the Ancient Mediterranean world, founded at the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago in 1994. Together they represent the longest sustained effort to map the development of open digital scholarship in any discipline.

AWOL is syndicated to Facebook and Twitter.
