    http://petrae.huma-num.fr/templates/petraenew/images/header.png

FARLI, The Foundation for Archaeological Research in the Land of Israel (RA), was founded on November 10th, 2009, as a non-profit organization aiming to advance and promote  archaeological research in Israel, support archaeological projects, help preserve and develop archaeological and heritage sites, develop and promote new technological tools in the service of archaeology, and support research concerning the archaeology and history of the southern Levant.

In this spirit FARLI founded this site, aiming to become a valuable tool for archaeologists, archaeology students and archaeology enthusiasts world wide. Here you will find a growing database of ancient pottery assemblages, divided into the regions and periods in which they were found, subdivided into type categories including all the valuable information we can provide such as; a list of archaeological sites in which they were found, special features, measurements and a bibliographical reference.

The main focus of this site will be on the pottery of the Southern Levant, with special emphasis on the pottery of the Holy Land throughout the periods. However we aim to develop this site to include other geographical regions in the Ancient Near East complete with their own unique chronology.

If you wish to help us with additional data please send the material to: data@farli.org

FARLI is a non-profit organization and needs your support to continue operating. If you wish to contribute to us please follow this link or the link appearing on the left. We thank you and hope you will find this site both enjoyable and enriching.

    http://129.199.58.244/fmi/iwp/data.jpg?-containerlayobj&-lay=14&-index=0

The Coinage in the Name of Alexander the Great and Philip Arrhidaeus, Bd. 1, Zürich / London 1991 vorliegen.

ISEGRIM (Information System of acquisition of greek coins) is a data base with about 60.000 descriptions of ancient coins minted from the seventh century b.c. to the end of the minting period of cities in Asia Minor (the present Turkey) in 276 a.c. A project of the Ancient History Department of the University in Düsseldorf, the data base fulfills special desideratum of ancient numismatics. The acquisition brings together all important coin collections from Asia Minor, as well as from the relevant Corporae and articles in periodicals. At first the Electrum coins, the royal coinage and the Cistophores were exluded from the data pool. But now these coins are also included - as far as was possible, considering the number of publications in recent years.

The coinage issued under Alexander the Great is not catalogued, because it has been thoroughly handled by Martin Jessop Price (The Coinage in the Name of Alexander the Great and Philip Arrhidaeus, Vol. 1, Zürich - London 1991). Ancient greek coins are important primary sources. They sometimes provide decisive information for inquiries in the fields of history, economic-history, art-history and theology. The material is widely scattered in published literature and work with it soon became a special branch.

In 1974, a data base was started with descriptions of ancient coins. It was meant to make detailed material accessible both to scholars and interested lay people. From the beginning the data base with its flexible index was intended to augment present publications, not to replace them. Knowledge can best be extended by using the original coins in conjunction with publications and representations. The collection of the material has been restricted to the ancient coins from Asia Minor because this area seems to represent a special desideratum for the future. Also the material of this geographic area seemed a workable unit for a department the size of that in Düsseldorf.

The project received sponsorship from the Gerda Henkel Stiftung, Düsseldorf, from 1978-1982. At the end of the International Symposion "Alphanumerische Datenverarbeitung in der Numismatik", University Düsseldorf 1981, the participants agreed to continue actively supporting the project in Düsseldorf. At that point it became clear that the data base had to be envisioned as a long-time project.

During its development the data base was presented regularly at congresses and its progress was discussed. At the present time it contains about 60.000 descriptions of mostly published greek and romans coins of Asia Minor. Each description query can demonstrate up to 99 coins. Descriptions include the place and time, the coin representation, coin legend, material, diameter, weight, die-axis, as well as detailed literature and bibliographical references.

Via internet it is accessible internationally. Technical assistance is available 40 hours weekly and there is also one programming assistant 14 hours per week.

TAY Project - Türkiye Arkeolojik Yerleşmeleri - Archaeological Settlements of Turkey

[First posted in AWOL 17 March 2013, updated 29 May 2016]

TAY Project - Türkiye Arkeolojik Yerleşmeleri - Archaeological Settlements of Turkey
    http://www.tayproject.org/imgif/tayorta.gif

The TAY (Archaeological Settlements of Turkey) Project was set up to build a chronological inventory of findings for the cultural heritage of Turkey - an important component of World Heritage sites - and to share this information with the international community.

Although both Anatolia and Thrace have revealed cultural traces dating to at least 400.000 years ago, results from early 19th century investigations as well as data generated by current surveys and excavations are neither well organised nor easily accessible. The locations of many sites remain unknown, while many of them have been and continue to be destroyed, taking their undiscovered secrets with them. In order to stop this cycle, it is essential to collect and compile all available cultural heritage information to establish and maintain a central inventory: if we do not document, we cannot protect. TAY project's central aim is to thoroughly document all archaeological settlements within Turkey (such as mounds, monuments, tumuli, cemeteries, etc.).

    Northwest Semitic Inscription Archive Online

[This site has been inaccessible for some time.  As of today it is back.  n.b. NSIA may not work with all browsers.  If you have a problem - try with a different tool]

    Northwest Semitic Inscription Archive
Welcome to the Northwest Semitic Inscription Archive
Ammonite, Aramaic, Edomite, Hebrew, Moabite, Nabatean, Philistine,
Phoenician, Proto-Canaanite, Proto-Sinaitic, and Punic Inscriptions

Related BibliographyThe Northwest Semitic Inscription Archive (NSIA) has been designed to allow scholars and students access to inscriptions from the above list. The database is continuously updated to include recently published inscriptions. The text of each inscription may be viewed in Aramaic Block Script available at this site.

To use the database, we recommend first clicking on the ""Lryn" Font" button at the top of this page and follow the instructions to install the font onto your computer. For additional information on the font see Tips using the "Tipsheet" button at the top of this page. Once the "Lryn" font is installed, the text of each artifact will display in the Aramaic Block Script...
Inscription bearing artifacts and bibliographic references collected for the Northwest Semitic Inscription Archive are selected according to a rather broad set of parameters. The first goal is to include all Iron Age and Persian Period inscriptions in the Ammonite, Aramaic, Edomite, Hebrew, Moabite, Philistine, Phoenician, Proto-Canaanite, Proto-Sinaitic, and Punic dialects. Geographic provenance for these inscriptions includes the Levant, Egypt and Mesopotamia. Artifact type is limited to inscriptions on durable surfaces; stone, metal, and ceramic. Papyri are not included

Bibliographic references for each inscription are extensive, but not comprehensive. Bibliographic items which provide major discussion of the artifact and its text, comparative study of a group of inscriptions, major exegetical or historical interpretation of each text, or clear photographs/drawings of the artifact/inscription are included. The bibliographic materials are designed to provide significant points of entry into the study of each inscription. However, these bibliographic materials will not provide references to all the nuances of scholarly discussion about each inscription, nuances frequently found included in footnotes, or in tangential remarks within the body of a scholarly work.
