Champollion and Rosellini Online

Champollion and Rosellini Egyptian Expeditions
The works of the Champollion and Rosellini expeditions are invaluable and irreplaceable because they contain information and illustrations of Egyptian monuments made early in the exploration and exploitation of that country. They are two of the oldest and most important publications to include accurate copies of reliefs and inscriptions and are still regularly consulted for many of them. The quality of the plates is excellent but the rarity of the publications and their very large format (72 x 58 cm page size) make them unwieldy at best and inaccessible at worst to researchers who wish to use them. If they exist in digitized form, the originals will be handled less, thus prolonging their useful lives, and they could be made accessible to altogether more people.

Champollion and Rosellini are two of the most important of these early sources, but digitizing this set of volumes should be seen as the first stage of a larger process of capturing the 19th and early 20th century legacy with a view to making it widely available. The Sackler Library has perhaps the world's finest collection of these publications, almost all of which are still in excellent condition, so that it is the logical collection to use as the point of departure for digitization.

Transcription of TgLam from Urb. 1

Transcription of TgLam from Urb. 1
By Christian Brady
The Text of Targum Lamentations from
MS Codex Vaticanus Urbinas Hebr. 1
This text is from the MS Urb. 1, represented without the vocalization. There is the occasional meaningless error in the MSS which I have omitted from this transcription, such as the additional ל in 1.3, and I have expanded the ligature formed at the end of ישראל by the combination of א ל. For more details concerning the MS see Brady, Vindicating God, Appendix 1, and the Introduction and Notes to Étan Levine’s facsimile edition, The Targum of the Five Megillot. It is this facsimile which I used for my readings.

TAY Project - Türkiye Arkeolojik Yerleşmeleri - Archaeological Settlements of Turkey

TAY Project - Türkiye Arkeolojik Yerleşmeleri - Archaeological Settlements of Turkey
http://www.tayproject.org/imgif/tayorta.gif

The TAY (Archaeological Settlements of Turkey) Project was set up to build a chronological inventory of findings for the cultural heritage of Turkey - an important component of World Heritage sites - and to share this information with the international community.

Although both Anatolia and Thrace have revealed cultural traces dating to at least 400.000 years ago, results from early 19th century investigations as well as data generated by current surveys and excavations are neither well organised nor easily accessible. The locations of many sites remain unknown, while many of them have been and continue to be destroyed, taking their undiscovered secrets with them. In order to stop this cycle, it is essential to collect and compile all available cultural heritage information to establish and maintain a central inventory: if we do not document, we cannot protect. TAY project's central aim is to thoroughly document all archaeological settlements within Turkey (such as mounds, monuments, tumuli, cemeteries, etc.).

Digital Classicist wiki Sprint 31 May

Digital Classicist wiki Sprint
As you may recall, the first Tuesday of every month sees interested List members getting together for an hour or two (in so-called online "sprints") to work on improving the content of the Digital Classicist wiki (https://wiki.digitalclassicist.org/). For this month, however, this event is taking place on the last Tuesday, i.e. 31 May, and is dedicated to a particular theme: ancient geography.

Anyone interested in participating should:

1. Request (if you don't already have one) an editing account on the wiki, by getting in touch in advance with Gabriel Bodard ([log in to unmask]).
2. Join, anytime between 16–18h London time (= 17–19CEST = 11–13EDT = 10–12CDT etc.), the #Digiclass chatroom  (instructions here: https://wiki.digitalclassicist.org/DigiClass_IRC_Channel), where you can work synchronously with colleagues (or by yourself) to edit or create articles in the DigitalClassicist wiki to do with resources on ancient geography - the geospatial data themselves and the tools for analysing them - created or curated by individuals, projects and/or institutions.

(Of course, you are free to join us to work on other parts of the wiki too!)

Please do extend this invitation to any interested individuals and parties.

We look forward to improving our content with you!

With best wishes,
The Digital Classicist team

Open Access Bibiography: Zenon at the DAI

[First posted in AWOL 12 July 2009. Updated 28 May 2016]

ZENON DAI  [Zentraler Online Katalog]
http://opac.dainst.org/exlibris/aleph/u18_2/alephe/www_f_eng/icon/zenon.gif
The DAI compiles some of the most important bibliographies on archaeology:

Archaeological Bibliography

Bibliography of the Archaeology of the Iberian Peninsula

Subject catalogue of the Roman-German Commission

Bibliography of the Archaeology of Eurasia (completed bibliography)

You are now able to search through the Archaeological Bibliography free of charge at the website of the DAI.
Please take a look at our central online catalogue ZENON DAI: opac.dainst.org!

The Archaeological Bibliography is expanded daily by the departments in Rome, Athens, Istanbul and the head office in Berlin, and it comprises titles collected since 1956 (approx. 400,000 titles).

As a result of the involvement of the Athens and Istanbul departments in compiling the bibliography (since spring 2006), considerably more Greek and Turkish journals and monographs have been described and made available for research, in view of the holdings of those libraries. The Archaeological Bibliography is being expanded additionally in the following areas: prehistory/Anatolia and among the oriental cultures: Hittites and Urartu.

In the Archaeological Bibliography you can search for monographs and articles from approx. 2,700 journals and articles from congress reports and festschrifts, etc. The bibliography contains the literature on Graeco-Roman culture and its peripheral cultural and also literature on Etruscan, Minoan and Mycenaean culture, the Anatolian cultures, prehistory and ancient history including epigraphy and numismatics.

Congress reports are now archived more consistently than before, arranged as a whole and described according to content.

Festschrifts and publications by several authors are described according to content if they have a unifying theme.

Reviews are currently not admitted.

Online Treasury of Talmudic Manuscripts
The Jewish National and University Library, David and Fela Shapell Family Digitization Project and the Hebrew University Department of Talmud are happy to present to the public the Online Treasury of Talmudic Manuscripts. This project brings together images of major Talmudic manuscripts from libraries throughout the world.
The manuscripts are indexed to enable access by standard citation (tractate, daf and amud for the Talmud Bavli, and tractate, chapter and mishna for the Mishna).
As the manuscripts are entirely in Hebrew and Aramaic, the navigation tools of this site are in Hebrew
It is best viewed under Microsoft Windows with Microsoft Explorer version 5 or higher.
