The second volume of the Proceedings of the Twelfth International Congress of Coptic Studies, this work is dedicated to the memory of Wolf-Peter Funk, a leading figure in Coptology who passed away in 2021. It brings together the contributions presented at the round table held in his honour at the Université libre de Bruxelles on 12 July 2022, during the congress, supplemented by additional testimonies and accompanied by a comprehensive bibliography of the dedicatee. Several of these studies illustrate, through precise case studies, the exceptional authority of W.-P. Funk in the fields of Coptic grammar and dialectology, as well as the breadth of his intellectual generosity: through his constant willingness to share his knowledge and documentation, he enabled the advancement (if not the completion) of numerous editions of particularly challenging texts. Other contributions highlight the seminal nature of his work in a range of areas, including Coptic morphology, the Coptic versions of the Bible, and Manichaean texts. Beyond paying tribute to the scholar and the man, this volume also seeks to encourage the scholarly community to sustain his legacy and to pursue the fruitful lines of research he has left behind.
