Le point de départ est un essai de définition de ce que représente l'épitaphe en tant que monument du souvenir, support d'informations entre les vivants et les morts et en conséquence véhicule de la mémoire. Abstract The volume discusses the notion of space by focusing on the most representative exponents of the Hellenistic schools and explores the role played by spatial concepts in both coeval and later authors who, without specifically thematising these concepts, made use of them in a theoretically original way. Renowned scholars investigate the philosophical significance and bring to light the problematical character of the ancient conceptions of space.

Abstract The Pythagorean theory of the "Harmony of the Spheres" has been influential in the history of philosophy and science. While much ink has been spilt over its scientific implications, its mythological formulation has not yet received serious scholarly attention. This groundbreaking book fills that gap by offering a sustained study of the theory`s mythological rendition in Plato`s Republic and in Iamblichus` On the Pythagorean Way of Life.
