I miei scritti su Plutarco: Raccolti, riveduti e corretti con bibliografia unificata

Angelo Casanova

The volume collects 27 papers written between 2003 and 2022, which have appeared in different publications (such as Proceedings of International Conferences, Collections in Honor of several scholars, and journals of classical philology). All have been revised and updated, and the bibliography has been unified. Eighteen are in Italian, while five are in English, three in Spanish, and one in French, since they were originally presented at conferences abroad. They deal especially with the dialogue Bruta animalia ratione uti, the Quaestiones convivales, Plutarch’s quotations from Menander and Euripides, his Lives of Romulus and Theseus, the Consolation to his Wife, and the Erotikós. Different interpretative problems, as well as several textual questions, are tackled. Finally, several significant clarifications about Plutarch’s family, mainly concerning his children, wife, and in-laws, are attained.

This book aims to build a solid and proper contribution to the contemporary global debate on the experience of democracy and its possibilities as the most effective mediator of a series of challenges, a debate that is necessarily rooted in the critical reassessment of its Greek cultural heritage. The book is articulated around the identification of a concrete problem: the need for studies that critically discuss Athenian democracy, seen as a daily problem and practice, based on its staseis (crises) and metabolai (changes), and whose solutions and strategies may still contribute to the reflection on the social, intellectual and ethical-political challenges of contemporary democracy.

Caulonia tra Crotone e Locri: Atti del Convegno Internazionale, Firenze 30 maggio-1 giugno 2007

Edited by: Lucia LeporePaola Turi

The work comprises over 30 original contributions and is completed by numerous illustrations, drawings and plans. The topics addressed include historic sources, topography, architecture, town planning, religion, funereal ideology, musical culture, epigraphy, coinage, craftsmanship and metallurgy as well as applied sciences and technologies. The articles are remarkable in terms of a new approach to the reading of the historic events and archaeological problems of the Achaean colony of Caulonia within a broader territorial dimension that also takes in Crotone and Locri.

Preistoria e Protostoria egea e cipriota

Luca BombardieriGiampaolo GraziadioAnna Margherita Jasink

This volume is intended as an introduction to the study of pre-classical cultures - Minoan, Mycenaean, Cycladic and Cypriot - which developed between the third and first millennium BC in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean basin. The analysis of archaeological evidence linked to material culture and artistic productions together with the study on epigraphic documentation offer a picture of political, economic-social and religious structures hosting phenomena of continuity and deep cultural relations. Even before Greek prehistory, this is the story of a composite reality, which is still far from being fully understood, but which has the charm of the ancient myths and of their ability to expand and interact with other Mediterranean and Near Eastern civilisations.

Sara Lenzi
The so-called "monochromes" on marble are twelve paintings on marble slabs from the Roman age, mostly coming from Herculaneum, and are now preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. These paintings were included in several publications. Despite that, they continued to raise many questions and there was a lack of studies focusing entirely on them. Furthermore, it had barely been clarified that, despite the name "monochromes", these works are completely polychrome. By combining the archaeological data and the information obtained from the non-invasive archaeometrical analysis, it was possible to achieve brand new results, which allowed for a better understanding of some aspects of these works, such as their iconography, the used pigments used and the clients’ choice.

Open Access Journal: Bulletin of Online Emendations to Papyri

[First posted in AWOL 16 February 2012. Updated 27 January 2026]

Bulletin of Online Emendations to Papyri (BOEP)
Zentrum für Altertumswissenschaften
This bulletin reports the emendation proposals that have been made via the Papyrological Editor (PE) to Greek and Coptic documentary and literary texts in the Duke Databank of Documentary Papyri (DDbDP) and Digital Corpus of Literary Papyri (DCLP) between March 30, 2018 and March 14, 2019. The new readings and three new editions have been vetted by members of the papyri.info editorial board. They have not appeared previously in print and are presented together here for ease of reference and review. The arguments and supporting evidence that were adduced to support them can, in most cases, be found in the “Editorial History” section at the bottom of the page following each text in papyri.info.

Note on conventions: We report all changes made to the online texts regardless of their perceived significance. When a contributing author states that the proposed emendation has been checked against a published or publicly accessible photo or digital image we indicate this with the phrase (from photo)ʼ. Information about the photo or a link to the image (or both) can be found at papyri.info in the header of the text in question. If an author has consulted a photo that is not in the public domain, we indicate this with (from a photo)ʼ. If a reading has been verified against the original, we write (from original)ʼ

Papyrological citations are provided in accordance with J.D. Sosin et al. (eds), Checklist of Editions of Greek, Latin, Demotic and Coptic Papyri, Ostraca and Tablets. Literary and subliterary papyri appear under their corresponding Trismegistos (TM) number

BOEP has moved. PDFs of 1.1 (2012) - 9.1 (2021) are now available here.  Future issues will appear in Pylon
