Volume 103 in the series Millennium-Studien / Millennium Studies
In ancient Rome, the triumphal procession was considered to be the culmination of any political career. This volume analyzes literary texts that commemorate past triumphs but that also metaphorically assume characteristics of this ritual. From the first century BCE onward, more and more Romans used these texts as a medium to present military victories as well as achievements in philosophy, rhetoric, and architecture as literary "spoils."
