The Aegean Dendrochronology Project is an ongoing effort to build long scale tree-ring chronologies in the Aegean and Near East and to provide a fundamental climate and environmental studies resource for the region.

AMORIUM ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT

The Amorium excavation and survey project is recording the remains of the medieval city of Amorium of the Byzantine Empire.

ANTIOCHEIA AD CRAGUM EXCAVATIONS

The excavations at Antiocheia ad Cragum focus on the remains of the city’s Roman Temple and colonnaded street.

ROUGH CILICIAN REGIONAL SURVEY PROJECT

The Rough Cilicia Survey project is mapping and recording the evidence of past human activities in western Rough Cilicia, Antalya Province.

APHRODISIAS EXCAVATIONS

The project at Aphrodisias involves excavation and research on the mound and monumental Roman city in southwestern Turkey.

AVKAT ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT

The Avkat project has conducted regional survey and archaeological exploration of the Roman through Late Antique center of Euchaita, later Avkat, in north central Anatolia.

The Batman-Diyarbakir Survey is a regional survey conducted along several small stream valleys in an area slated for inundation as a result of dam projects.

ÇADIR HÖYÜK EXCAVATIONS

The Çadir Höyük Excavations explore a multi-period mound in central Turkey that has levels that range from the Chalcolithic to Byzantine periods.

CENTER FOR MIDDLE EAST LANDSCAPES (CAMEL)

A project of the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute, CAMEL is dedicated to investigating this region through a longitudinal study of its landscapes.

CORONA Archaeological Atlas of the Middle East

The CORONA project provides high resolution satellite images from the 1960s cover some sites in southern Turkey and neighboring countries.

The Bay of Iskenderun Survey Project is an ongoing systematic regional survey of the Bay of Iskenderun, carried out in conjunction with the Kinet Hoyuk excavation in Cilicia.

KAHRAMANMARAŞ EXCAVATION AND SURVEY

The Kahramanmaraş Excavation and Survey project includes ongoing archaeological excavation and survey of the late Neolithic site of Domuztepe and environs in southeastern Turkey.

GYGAIA PROJECTS – KAYMAKCI

The Kaymakçı Archaeological Project (KAP) is a new Gygaia initiative, begun in 2014. KAP goals include increasing understanding of the emergence and maintenance of an indigenous kingdom situated between the better known spheres of the Hittites and Mycenaeans.

UPPER TIGRIS ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH PROJECT – KENAN TEPE EXCAVATIONS

The UTARP project includes excavation and survey of the upper Tigris region of southeastern Turkey and excavation of the site of Kenan Tepe, a settlement significant in the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze age periods.

KERKENES PROJECT

Archaeological exploration of the large Iron Age city located on the high ridge of Kerkenes Dağı in Yozgat Province of Central Turkey, destroyed in the mid 6th century, possibly ancient Pteria.

PHOENIX ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY

Phoinix is an as yet unstudied city of the fifth Century BCE to late antique eras, situated in ancient Caria, in the Muğla province near Marmaris.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATION OF SARDIS

The Archaeological Exploration of Sardis involves ongoing excavation and study of the remains of the capital city of Lydia, legendary for wealth in precious metals and coinage. Current research includes study of remains and finds from the Archaic through Ottoman periods.

SINOP REGIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT

The Sinop Regional Archaeological Project investigates the long-term patterns of land-use and settlement and communication networks in the Black Sea coastal region of Sinop, Turkey.

TELL TAYINAT ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT

The large mound at Tell Ta’yinat near Antakya in southern Turkey has remains from the Early Bronze through Iron Ages. Inscriptions from the mound identify the city as ancient Kunulua, capital of the Neo-Hittite/Aramaean Kingdom of Patina/Unqi.

TITRIŞ HÖYÜK EXCAVATION PROJECT

The Early Bronze Age city located at Titriş Höyük in southern Turkey is under continued study and publication.

TROY EXCAVATIONS

With a long and complex history, archaeological explorations at ancient Troy were led recently by Universität Tübingen in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati. Continued study of the site of Troy is carried out by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi.

YALBURT YAYLASI ARCHAEOLOGICAL LANDSCAPE RESEARCH PROJECT

The Yalburt Yaylası Archeaological Landscape Project is carrying out survey and exploration of the Hittite period sacred pool and dam site in Konya province, central Turkey.

CHICAGO TÜBINGEN EXPEDITION TO ZINCIRLI

The Neubauer Expedition to Zincirli is exploring the monumental Iron Age city of ancient Sam’al in southeastern Turkey.

ZIYARET TEPE EXCAVATION PROJECT

The Ziyaret Tepe Project carries out excavation and study of the high citadel and lower city mound of the Assyrian period city, ancient Tushan.
