Open Access Journal: Lampeter Working Papers in Classics

[First posted in AWOL 1 June 2010.  Updated 9 August 2011.  The original site has disappeared, apparently as a consequence of the merger of Trinity University College and the University of Wales Lampeter.  I have linked here to the Wayback Machine's 22 June 2008 archive of the site, pending rediscovery of an active location.  If you know where it has reappeared, please comment below.]

Lampeter Working Papers in Classics

Working Papers may be cited without seeking prior permission from the author. The proper form for citing Working Papers in this series is:
Author (year). Title. Version #.# Month. Lampeter Working Papers in Classics.

Posting a paper on this site does not preclude simultaneous or subsequent publication elsewhere, including other Working Papers series. The copyright of a Working Paper is held by the author or by his or her assignee: see Copyright Statement.

Downloadable copies of Working Papers will be removed from this site if and when authors indicate to the website coordinators that they have been published elsewhere, or if it comes to the website coordinators’ attention that the paper has appeared in print. A link will then be created with the full reference to the published version of the paper. Once a paper has been published elsewhere, it is preferable to cite it in its final, published version, rather than in its Working Paper version.

"Journal of Near & Middle Eastern Studies" becomes "Orient"

Orient: A Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations Student Union Publication (formerly Journal of Near & Middle Eastern Studies)

This is the new name of Journal of Near & Middle Eastern Studies
The NMCSU represents students at the University of Toronto enrolled in NMC courses and those working towards an NMC minor, major, or specialist.

We serve as a liaison between students and faculty to help improve the student experience and make their voices heard. By organizing lectures, discussions, film festivals, graduate seminars, and socials pertaining to the historical and contemporary Middle East, we bring a sense of community and an advancing academic environment to the NMC department. We also process all NMC course evaluations to help students learn more about their courses and professors.
Also, as of 2010, we are proud to announce the coming NMCSU Academic Journal. Please click here for more information regarding the Journal.

Editor’s Note
On behalf of the NMCSU executive, we are proud to present you with the fourth edition of the Journal of Near and Middle Eastern Studies. After much deliberation we have decided to unveil a new name: Orient. There are many different interpretations of this word. We can look at the Orient as in the countries of the East; a pearl of luster and of the highest quality; or the verb of situating yourself. Either way, we found this an appropriate first impression for readers of this edition.

http://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/savifadok/Icons/BildSavifaDok_test4.gif

SavifaDok, the Open Access document server of Savifa - the Virtual Library South Asia, is an electronic platform for publishing and archiving academic literature in the field of South Asian studies. The publication platform offers free access to full-text documents and adheres to the principles of Open Access as well as the goals of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

People with a research interest in South Asia have the possibility to publish their work in electronic format and make it available through the World Wide Web. Thereby, SavifaDok guarantees long-term availability and visibility of your documents in library catalogues (e.g. KVK-Karlsruher Virtual Catalogue) and search engines by using standardized addresses and metadata. We publish books, articles and research papers as well as multi media documents.

Savifa - the Virtual Library South Asia is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and aims at serving as a gateway to both print and electronic media.

Loeb Classical Library Books Available Online

[Posted 19 January 2010, updated  2 August 2011]

Ed Donnelly maintains a list of Loeb Classical Library Books Available Online.

DownLOEBables -- Loeb Books Available Free Online

Things just keep growing. This list was initially a subset of my G'Oogle list, which itself had grown out of a post I originally made at textkit. Anyway, this is hoped to be a more-convenient way for us to track all of the freely-available LCL books out there. I have sorted these by Loeb catalog number, so that it will be easier for everyone to know what we have found and what is still missing (but hopefully out there for free, at least those that have passed into the public domain). As always, feel free to email errors or additions, or feel free to post about them at textkit.

Thanks: Many of you have emailed me additional links or posted them to textkit. My goal is to keep this list as up-to-date as possible, at least until the textkit wiki or whatever they decide to make is up and running and this list can be more easily maintained by the textkit community.

Note: For some reason, Google does not make all of its pdf books available to computers from outside of the US and Canada. If you try one of these links and don't find an option to download the whole pdf, it may be Google is blocking you. I have no idea why they do this for some, but not all, of the public domain pdf files.

Final Note: These are just links, I don't have any of the actual files here. All of the sites I link to claim that the books are in the public domain (at least for the United States) but you should review each site's usage agreements before downloading any books from them to make sure that you are not violating any copyright laws.
