The land of Anatolia has seen many empires come and go. These have included amongst others the Hittite, the Seleucid, the Roman, the Byzantine, and the Ottoman empires. This collection features articles from the last seventy years that examine the workings of imperial systems in Anatolia. These articles investigate the dynamic interplay between centralised power and local resistance, exploring in particular the formation of identities at the intersection between empires.
