 New in Dickinson College Commentaries in the past year

Notes, vocabulary, and essays for Odyssey Books 1 and 4 are now live on the site. As before, the notes were authored by Rob Hardy and the essays by Thomas Van Nortwick. Editing and uploading of the vocabulary lists and final editing of the notes for these books were done by Alice Thompson and Jilliyn Iannace (both Dickinson '26), and Dr. Emma Ianni. Dr. Ianni served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Classical Studies at Dickinson in 2024-25, and as of fall '25 is Assistant Professor of Classical Studies at Bates College. Meagan Ayer adjusted the menus to include links to these books. Many thanks to all for your excellent work on this project!

Two new commentaries: William Turpin on Gesta Francorum, the seminal eye-witness chronicle of the First Crusade, and Elizabeth Manwell on Vergil, Georgics Book 4, which is about bees and contains the famous tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. These were both multi-year efforts that involved substantial contributions from student and teacher reading groups in the editing process. Many thanks to everybody who helped!
