The Journal of Egyptological Studies (JES)
ISSN: 1312-4307

The Journal of Egyptological Studies (JES) is published by the Bulgarian Institute of Egyptology. It is issued on an annual basis since September 2004. The JES is a result of the development and expansion of Egyptology in Bulgaria. It gives Egyptologists an opportunity to publish new original ideas, new approaches and data in connection with the language, literature, religion, archeology and history of the “place where our hearts live”.

The Journal of Egyptological Studies is open to the international Egyptolgical society, but also aims to establish a bridge between Western schools of Egyptology and their colleagues from Eastern Europe. As a result of World War II and the political changes, which took place afterwards, part of the connections between scholars from different countries in Europe has been interrupted. Nowadays, for example, few Egyptologists abroad know about fundamental achievements of Russian scholars in the field of socio-economic, political and cultural history of Ancient Egypt. We want to cooperate in filling this gap, encouraging young scholars to contribute to the process of exchange of ideas and experience in our field.

Annual Review of the The British Institute of Persian Studies

Celebrating its sixtieth anniversary in 2021, the British Institute of Persian Studies (BIPS) is the UK’s foremost learned society dedicated to promoting and supporting scholarship and research excellence on all aspects of Iran and the wider Persianate world, and to increasing public understanding and knowledge of this region. The Persianate world includes territories historically associated with Persian and Iranian culture and language: Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Transcaucasia, Iraq, the Persian Gulf littoral, and South Asia. BIPS supports humanities and social sciences research into this region, including but not limited to Anthropology, Archaeology, Art, Classics, Cultural Studies, History, Language, Linguistics, Politics, Religious Studies, and Sociology.

Modelling Archaeological Landscapes: Bridging Past and Present in two Mediterranean Islands

Die wachsende Bedeutung von kulturellen (auch archäologischen) Landschaften hat die Archäologie in den letzten Jahren vor neue große Herausforderungen gestellt, denen man nur durch interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit und auf der Basis von partizipatorischen Initiativen begegnen kann. Die dringende Notwendigkeit, effektive Konzepte zur Erschließung von archäologischen Stätten und ihrer natürlichen Umgebung zu entwickeln, kann der Anlass sein, um die zerstörerischen Methoden der Archäologie mit kreativen Strategien zu erweitern und dadurch das Profil dieser Disziplin in Forschung und Lehre drastisch zu verändern. Diese Überlegungen standen im Vordergrund des vorliegenden Bandes, der die Ergebnisse des Projekts „Modelling Archaeological Landscapes. Bridging Past and Present in Two Mediterranean Islands“ vorstellt, welches von den Universitäten von Heidelberg und Catania im Jahr 2018 durchgeführt und vom DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) gefördert wurde.
