This book offers a comprehensive study of the Metaphrasis of the Psalms
by Byzantine poet Manuel Philes (fourteenth century). It contains the
first critical edition of the entire text (about 3,500 verses), where
Psalms and their metaphraseis are displayed synoptically. The
introduction provides a complete examination of the manuscripts; a
survey of the language and the metre of Philes’ metaphrasis; and a study
of how and why Philes rephrased the text of the Psalms.
