List of openly accessible journals published by the Deutsche Morgenlaendische Gesellschaft:
The Deutsche Morgenlaendische Gesellschaft (DMG - German Oriental Society) was founded in 1845 and started in 1847 to publish a periodical covering all aspects of Oriental Studies: The Zeitschrift der Deutschen Morgenlaendischen Gesellschaft (ZDMG) is still today one of the leading scientific periodicals in the field of Oriental and African Studies.
- Zeitschrift der Deutschen Morgenländischen Gesellschaft (ZDMG) (1. 1847 – a “moving wall” of 5 years)
- Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und verwandte Gebiete (1.1886 – 44.1938)
- Zeitschrift für Indologie und Iranistik (1.1922 – 10.1935/36)
- Zeitschrift für Semitistik und verwandte Gebiete (1.1922 – 10.1935)
In addition to the ZDMG, the society published for a certain period of time three other scientific journals which dealt with particular aspects of Oriental Studies: The Zeitschrift fuer Assyriologie und verwandte Gebiete was published from 1886 until 1938, the Zeitschrift fuer Indologie und Iranistik was published from 1922 until 1936, and the Zeitschrift fuer Semitistik und verwandte Gebiete was published between 1922 and 1935. These journals present valuable contributions to the scholarly discourse on the history of Asian and African cultures and societies and are, at the same time, valuable sources for the history of and current research in Oriental and African Studies.
The Project
Within the framework of a project originally funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG - German Research Foundation) all issues of the periodicals published by the DMG up to 2010 have been digitised Open Access. Whereby, after an agreement with the publishers Harrassowitz, a 'moving wall' of five years has been set for the accessibilty of the digitized issues of Zeitschrift der Deutschen Morgenlaendischen Gesellschaft (ZDMG).
The Partners
The University and State Library Saxony-Anhalt in Halle (ULB Halle) maintains the collection Journals of the DMG as a module of its Specialised Information Service for Middle East, North African and Islamic Studies and the Middle East Virtual Library MENALIB.
Technical concept and support for the project are provided by semantics GmbH in collaboration with Walter Nagel GmbH & Co KG and Herrmann und Kraemer GmbH.
