Open Access Journal: Friends of Aphrodisias Newsletter
The Charity was established for the advancement of education by means of
promoting research in archaeology, ancient and classical sculpture,
monuments and artifacts, archaeological investigation, exploration and
excavation - particularly at Aphrodisias and elsewhere in the world -
including the dissemination of all information, discoveries and results
relating thereto or arising thereon, to the general public in the United
Kingdom and elsewhere, through publication, lectures, restoration of
ancient marbles and provision of sculpture casts. The Charity is
administered on a day to day basis by its Trustees, with the assistance
of
volunteers. It has no employees.
Every year we pay for a
substantial amount of the research and conservation at Aphrodisias. In
particular we support the British members of the Aphrodisias Team which
is headed by Professor R.R.R. Smith, Lincoln Professor of Art and
Archaeology, Oxford University. In recent years we have financed much of
the conservation work carried out under the direction of the late
Trevor Proudfoot, Director of Cliveden Conservation Workshop Ltd.
