On June 17, 2013 I successfully defended my PhD dissertation at the Faculté de théologie et de sciences religieuses, Université Laval, Québec. The jury was composed of five members: Prof. Paul-Hubert Poirier (Université Laval, Québec, supervisor), Prof. Louis Painchaud (Université Laval, Québec, co-supervisor), Dr. Wolf-Peter Funk (Université Laval, Québec), Prof. André Gagné (Concordia University, Montreal), Prof. Pierluigi Piovanelli (University of Ottawa). The president of the jury was Prof. André Couture (Université Laval, Québec). Ein Bibliothekar in der Wissenschaft - ein Wissenschaftler in der Bibliothek
Karl Preisendanz (1883-1968) war Direktor der Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe und von 1934 bis 1945 der Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg. Als international anerkannter Papyrologe und Paläographie- und Handschriftenspezialist gilt er als einer der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten in der badischen Wissenschaftslandschaft der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts.
Der größte Teil seines Nachlasses ging nach seinem Tod an die Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg (Signatur Heid. Hs. 3763). Neben einer umfassenden Sammlung von Sonderdrucken eigener Veröffentlichungen befinden sich darunter hauptsächlich Manuskripte späterer Publikationen, Vorträge und Vorlesungen und insbesondere eine außerordentlich umfangreiche Korrespondenz mit Briefen zahlreicher Gelehrter und Fachkollegen seiner Zeit.
Vollständig erschlossen werden soll der bislang nur zu einem kleineren Teil erfasste Briefnachlass. Basierend auf verschiedenen Vorarbeiten der letzten Jahre wird der Nachlass nun in der Nachlassdatenbank „Kalliope“ erschlossen sowie Bild- und Aktenmaterial in Auswahl digitalisiert und online bereitgestellt.
Das Heidelberger Projekt "Zwischen „Anthologia Palatina“ und Zauberpapyri: Erschließung, Erhaltung und Bereitstellung des Nachlasses des Papyrologen und Bibliothekars Karl Preisendanz (1883-1968) im Bestand der Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg" wird von der Stiftung Kulturgut Baden-Württemberg gefördert. Monete al femminile, database multifunzionale
Monete al femminile è un database multifunzionale, incentrato sul censimento informatizzato della documentazione numismatica relativa ai personaggi femminili della famiglia imperiale, emessa tra periodo augusteo e periodo teodosiano.
Allo stato attuale, il database comprende circa 2300 record, relativi all'intera produzione monetale di zecca ufficiale, ed è in corso di implementazione attraverso l'inserimento delle emissioni di zecca provinciale. La compilazione delle schede è stata eseguita tramite lo spoglio critico dei principali cataloghi e repertori numismatici (RIC, BMCRE, BNCMER, RPC, etc.).
La tabella di raccolta dati primaria è articolata in un set di campi che definiscono le connotazioni specifiche di ciascuna emissione, focalizzando l'attenzione sui singoli elementi iconografici ed epigrafici che determinano la complessità del tipo monetale.
La realizzazione del database si inserisce nell'ambito del progetto Lexicon Iconographicum Numismaticae (LIN), promosso dalle cattedre di Numismatica delle Università di Messina, Bologna, Genova e Milano. La banca dati, concepita originariamente come strumento di supporto all'indagine numismatica, ha sviluppato in corso di realizzazione modifiche strutturali, volte ad una prospettiva di fruizione ampliata oltre il contesto specialistico strettamente numismatico.
La creazione di ulteriori tabelle ha permesso di correlare le immagini di esemplari specifici alle descrizioni delle tipologie monetali, collegando inoltre attestazioni epigrafiche, profili prosopografici e riferimenti bibliografici pertinenti ai personaggi femminili censiti.
La scelta di un software estremamente flessibile (FileMaker Pro 10 Advanced) ha favorito la creazione di uno strumento facilmente accessibile, predisposto per la fruizione sia in modalità offline – tramite l'esecuzione di soluzioni runtime – sia in ambiente web.
Il database è distribuito attraverso una licenza Creative Commons "Attribuzione - Non commerciale - Non opere derivate - 2.5 Italia".La versione Demo 1.3 contiene i record delle emissioni monetali comprese tra l'età augustea e l'età di Adriano (eccetto Vibia Sabina). Non sono inclusi esempi di schede epigrafiche, prosopografiche e bibliografiche, la cui compilazione è tuttora in corso.

Today we have released the new and improved Nomisma.org. There have been some updates to fix consistency problems in the data. One of the major improvements is the importation of multilingual labels pulled from dbpedia through the XForms-based editing interface (I'll write up a blog post to discuss the Nomisma back-end eventually, and probably write up something more detailed for publication in code4lib or CAA). In addition to data improvements, we have introduced some major new functionalities:
SPARQL endpoint (http://nomisma.org/sparql)
The new Nomisma server employs an RDF triplestore and SPARQL endpoint based on Apache Fuseki. The endpoint is detailed in an older post, "How to Participate in OCRE." Instead of launching a triplestore specifically for OCRE, we have launched it more generally for Nomisma. Therefore, we can insert into it RDF describing non-Roman imperial coins. OCRE, then, queries the Nomisma triplestore to power its mapping, quantitative analysis, and thumbnail-displaying capabilities. When we release the new linked data-aware OCRE (which will contain all RIC types through Commodus) within the next few weeks, I'll provide a more detailed blog post about how OCRE functions...

A database of Ancient Authors and Works by Trismegistos
This beta version of Trismegistos Authors is the result of work in progress on the Leuven Database of Ancient Books. The Trismegistos Team is currently converting the information on attestations and quotations of ancient authors and their works to a new relational system.
Once ready, the user will be able to navigate from authors and works to attestations and quotes, but right now TM has only covered the non-christian part of the manuscripts included in the LDAB, and even that still has to be checked.
Checking the existing references and converting the christian material to the same system will probably take until late September, and we therefore urge the LDAB user to continue using the old system, which will remain in function until then.
Please also note that this new database of Authors is in the first instance a tool to facilitate navigation in the various sections of Trismegistos: Texts attested in manuscripts dated before AD 800, place names from Egypt in Trismegistos Places, and in the future also some attestations of individuals from Ptolemaic Egypt. This explains some of the lacunae such as e.g. Tacitus.
