This is a developing list of open access journals currently reviewing papers for publication. It is intended to offer opportunities for scholars interested in publishing openly. It is compiled in advance of my presentation at the ASOR Annual Meeting 2019: Best Practices for Digital Scholarship: “Sharing Your Work: Library Ethics, Privacy, and Commercial Repositories”. Journals included here cover a wide range of disciplines within the study of antiquity. It is not yet comprehensive. If you wish to add a title simply let me know (comments - below).
The journal is the first open-access and forum-peer-reviewed
journal that covers the entire field of biblical studies and cognate
fields in its diversity, and it is committed to the principles of the
EABS in terms of equal opportunity, non-discrimination, and academic
rigor. This journal innovates the way humanities scholarship is
published, by utilizing an open peer-review system known as "forum
review." In this system all reviewers' comments are visible to all other
reviewers. This system enables AABNER to maintain rigor while
encouraging innovative approaches and keeping review time to a minimum.
The Institute has been publishing Acta Instituti Romani Finlandiae
since 1961. Studies by the Institute’s research groups, monographs by
its members, and presentations given at seminars held at the Institute
on classical philology, epigraphy, classical archaeology, ancient and
medieval history and arts research are all published in the series. All
contributions are presented to the Editor-in-Chief and assessed by a
qualified external referee. In order to ensure impartiality, submissions
are presented without indication of authorship.
Aegyptiaca is an international open access journal, published by the Department of Egyptology, University of Heidelberg.

Aldus 2.0 is an international journal
that promotes a debate on digital textuality in the philological,
literary and linguistic fields.
Aims and scope
The aim of Aldus 2.0 is to encourage
and promote a debate around the main themes of Digital Humanities both
in the philological-literary field and in the linguistic one. The spread
of new technologies and their application in the different areas of
Italian studies offered new perspectives of study, analysis and research
and opened technical and theoretical-methodological issues that
represent a great challenge for philologists, linguists, publishers and
more. Ideally recalling Aldo Manuzio’s revolution and the importance of
his cultural project, Aldus 2.0 looks critically and attentively at
progress in the Humanities with an eye constantly to the past, an essential element for a proper vision of the future.
The journal is not only addressed to
linguists and philologists, but it also pursues to be an open space for
discussions with other disciplines, such as the many areas of
communication sciences, and to their contribution: the interdisciplinary
approach enhances methods and perspectives that shed light on aspects
that would risk being ignored or little discussed by adopting a
mono-disciplinary approach. In this sense too Aldus 2.0 tries to propose
itself as something new and innovative compared to other editorial
realities that discuss themes connected to the web and its texts.

primeros pasos.
Recent political events have shown an alarming lack of awareness in
western countries of life in the Middle East. Anthropologists, trained
in analysing local discourses and social actions and their
socio-political and historical contexts, play an important role in
making social and cultural developments in the Middle East more
comprehensible to a wider world.
This peer-reviewed journal provides a forum for scholarly exchange
between anthropologists and other social scientists working in and on
the Middle East. The journal's aim is to disseminate, on the basis of
informed analysis and insight, a better understanding of Middle Eastern
cultures and thereby to achieve a greater appreciation of Middle Eastern
contributions to our culturally diverse world.
This journal publishes
original studies on the literature, language, history and material
culture of Ancient Greece and Rome as well as articles concerning the

Arachne is a
periodical edition of the Hellenic Centre for Research and Conservation
of Archaeological Textiles (ARTEX), first issued in 2003. Its main goal
is to raise awareness on the existence of fragments of archaeological
textiles in Greece and to serve as an instrument for the dissemination
of the archaeological textile research in Greece and abroad. It was
initially thought as the media for the publication of the studies of
extant textiles by ARTEX, but it quickly welcomed diverse publications
on ancient textiles (from the Bronze Age until the Roman era, studies on
iconography, written texts, textile tools etc.). Arachne also hosts
papers of students working on various facets of textile production and
technology in Greece.

The study of the human past has conventionally been divided between two
distinct academic disciplines depending upon the kind of evidence under
investigation: “history”, with its focus on written records, and
“archaeology”, which analyzes the remains of material culture.
Archaeology and Text: A Journal for the Integration of Material Culture
with Written Documents in the Ancient Mediterranean and Near East aims
to bridge this disciplinary divide by providing an international forum
for scholarly discussions which integrate the studies of material
culture with written documents. Interdisciplinary by nature, the journal
offers a platform for professional historians and archaeologists alike
to critically investigate points of confluence and divergence between
the textual and the artifactual. We seek contributions from scholars
working in the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. Contributions with a
theoretical or methodological focus on the interface between
archaeology and text are especially encouraged. By publishing all of its
articles online, the Archaeology and Text seeks to disseminate its
published papers immediately after the peer-review and editorial
processes have been completed, providing timely publication and
convenient access.

“Classica Cracoviensia”, the annual devoted to the studies of Greek and
Roman antiquity, was established in 1995 as the initiative of the
Director of the Institute of Classical Philology of the Jagiellonian
University, Professor Stanisław Stabryła. Since 1996, the function of
the scientific editor has been held by Professor Jerzy Styka. From the
very beginning “Classica Cracoviensia” has been planned as a forum for
scientific cooperation between the Institute of Classical Philology of
the Jagiellonian University and European university centres of studies
on the classical Greek and Roman culture in its various forms –
literature as well as politics, philosophy, religion, law, art and
reception studies. Periodically organised conferences, research
projects, guest lectures, together with new publishing series are a few
examples of this cooperation. It has made a significant contribution to
the development of the Greek and Roman antiquity studies; at the same
time, it brings academics working in this area of study together.
Through the presentation of research on various forms of the Greek and
Roman culture, we are trying to reveal the processes which have shaped
this culture and the complexity of cultural transformation which had
been taking place within it, as well as accentuate its universal
character and the inspirational role in the creation of modern Europe.
The very broad formula of this periodical supports intercultural and
interdisciplinary research, which allows for a multifaceted and in-depth
presentation of cultural phenomena and teaches the respect for
otherness. The versatility of research methods serves as an argument for
defending the heritage of antiquity in the modern world.
Classics@ (ISSN: 2327-2996)
is designed to bring contemporary classical scholarship to a wide
audience online. Each issue will be dedicated to its own topic, often
with guest editors, for an in-depth exploration of important current
problems in the field of Classics. We hope that Classics@ will
appeal not only to professional classicists, but also to the
intellectually curious who are willing to enter the conversation in our
discipline. We hope that they find that classical scholarship engages
issues of great significance to a wide range of cultural and scholarly
concerns and does so in a rigorous and challenging way
Named after the youngest of the Parcae, Clotho got its name
after the deity responsible for spinning the thread of life; thus the
journal seeks to create a new space of creativity, exploration, and
learning in the field of classical studies. Wilamowitz famously defined
classical scholarship “by its subject-matter – Graeco-Roman civilization
in its essence and in every facet of its existence.” Following in those
footsteps, Clotho welcomes exploring Greek and Latin language –
lexicography, grammar, and the broader issues of linguistics. It seeks
to investigate the traditional fields of classical studies, literature,
textual criticism, rhetoric, philosophy, and history; as well as
archaeology, numismatics, epigraphy, papyrology, and paleography. Above
all, the journal is committed to the idea of interdisciplinarity. As
such, it accepts antiquity-related contributions from the spheres of
art, music, science, religion, and law; as well as the classical
tradition and classical reception, history of classical scholarship, and
last but foremost, translation.

CDLI
is pleased to present here the results of research in progress
submitted, for inclusion in a preprint series hosted by the project, by
experts in fields associated with Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern
Archaeology. We anticipate that these papers in their final form will
eventually be available in journals (in some cases our own) or in edited
volumes; or will, by authors' preference, remain unpublished in the
formal sense, so that this may be a final venue for work that might
otherwise remain unnoticed in the field. Authors who are interested in
submitting contributions to the CDLP should be generally aware of the editorial policies of the journals CDLJ & CDLB; while submissions in English are preferred, CDLP does, however, accept preprints in the other major languages of academic communication.Significant
and nearly complete, or dormant research papers are particularly
welcome, regardless of their length and scope. Authors should make their
submissions in both originating text-processor/layout file, and in the
PDF format in which it will be made available here. International A4 or
US letter format are both allowed, portrait or landscape. In most cases,
if the submission is acceptable for distribution, we will merely add a
lead page of the form visible in the files listed below. We invite
interested authors to make use of this series to communicate their
research to a broader community in advance or in stead of undertaking
the rigors of a peer-reviewed standard publication, and we hope the
feedback that results from a paper’s dissemination through CDLP contributes to its ultimate impact.

Figura – Studies on the Classical Tradition is an
international journal to be published online with unrestricted access,
in order to disseminate current research and writing on the Classical
Tradition’s repertoire. The journal encompasses studies of Antiquity’s
visual and textual culture, as well as appropriations and
transfigurations of this legacy in the ancient and post-ancient world.
Post-antiquity may be taken to include the contemporary period,
therefore the cut-off used as a frame of reference for content proposed
by Figura is conceptual rather than temporal, which calls for a
distinction in this respect.

The editorial board is pleased to announce the establishment of Fragments,
a new, open-access and peer-reviewed journal, which will be published
by MPublishing, a division of the University of Michigan Library. The
journal's first articles were published in July 2011. Fragments
will provide a forum for dialogue and exchange between scholars in all
fields of the humanities and social sciences who study the premodern
world. The journal encourages scholars to pursue subjects of broad
interest to colleagues working in other places and times, and to pursue
comparative and connective approaches in investigating the past. The
editors also invite scholars to explore interdisciplinary approaches,
such as those that synthesize the insights of textual scholarship and
archaeology, or history and sociology. We also welcome articles that
introduce methodologically innovative approaches to the shared
challenges of interpreting and understanding bodies of premodern
evidence that are distinct in kind and quantity from the evidence of
the more recent past. The broadest aim of Fragments is to
transcend fragmentation: to foster research that overflows the
boundaries of various well-established and vital traditions in order to
generate new, integrated ways of thinking about the premodern past.

History of Classical Scholarship (HCS) is a new
academic journal that sets out to be the first periodical exclusively
devoted to the history of the studies on the Greek and Roman world, in a
broad and interdisciplinary sense. We welcome contributions on any
aspects of the history of classical studies, in any geographical
context, from the Middle Ages to the late twentieth century, and are
keen to host papers covering the whole range of the discipline: from
ancient history to literary studies, from epigraphy and numismatics to
art history and archaeology, from textual criticism to religious and
linguistic studies. We also welcome the publication of significant items
from the Nachlässe of classical scholars, including letters that may shed light on matters of historical or historiographical interest.
HCS is fully open-access: it is freely available on the web,
and each paper is paginated and downloadable in PDF format. It has a
strong international dimension, like the subject matter that it aims to
explore, and features articles written in English, French, German,
Italian or Spanish.

reviews, or surveys of existing work in some particular area.
JJAR is a peer-reviewed online journal dealing with studies related to
the archaeology of the Levant and adjacent relevant regions, from the
Protohistoric era to the end of the Hellenistic period (6th - 1st millennium BCE). It is distributed free of charge via the Internet.
Chronologically, JJAR covers the periods which were often associated
with ‘biblical archaeology’. While the journal covers all aspects and
themes related to this long era, we particularly welcome the following
themes:
The Journal of Ancient Egyptian Architecture is a scientific, open
access and annual periodical. Its purpose is to promote the publication
of research devoted to Ancient Egyptian architecture (domestic, civil,
military, ritual/religious and funerary), from the Predynastic Period to
the Roman imperial era, whatever the modern geographical context
(Egypt, Sudan, Near East, etc). The subject scope includes everything
relating to construction, regardless of its original importance or
purpose.
The Journal of Ancient History and Archaeology is seeking to publish
profound, rigorous, well-written, high-quality, high-impact papers to
generate discussion, debate, fresh perspective. The research area
is the European continent and the Near East in the Greek-Roman times.
The topics are: ancient history, ancient philology, epigraphy,
papyrology, numismatics, archaeological material, archaeological
reports, digital archaeology, archaeometry, reviews.
The Journal of Hebrew Scriptures (JHS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access, journal established in 1996 to foster
scholarly research on the Hebrew Bible, Ancient Israel’s History and cognate fields of studies.
There are challenges in the translation and interpretation of the
biblical texts from the Source Languages (SL) to Receptor Languages
(RL). These stem from the fact that no two languages are the same.
Mother-Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics studies the translation and
interpretation similarities and differences that come out of various
translations of the Bible into the indigenous languages of people. The
value of the similarities and differences in the translation of biblical
texts is that it gives theological insights to existing interpretations
of the texts. These insights create avenues for the scholarly study of
mother-tongue biblical texts in addition to the Hebrew Bible, Septuagint
and Greek New Testament. Language is a communication tool.
Journal of the Jesus Movement in its Jewish Setting: From the First to the Seventh Century (JJMJS) is
a peer-reviewed academic open access journal, published electronically
in co-operation with Hebrew University (Jerusalem), University of Oslo
(Oslo), and DePaul University (Chicago).
JJMJS is
an independent and scholarly journal registered as a non-profit
organization in Norway (Org. no. 918437312) and does not represent any
particular theological school or religious organization. The purpose of JJMJS is to
advance scholarship on a crucial period in the early history of the
Jewish and Christian traditions, from the first to the seventh century,
when they developed into what is today known as two world religions,
mutually shaping one another as they did so. JJMJS publishes
high-quality research on any topic that directly addresses or has
implications for the understanding of the inter-relationship and
interaction between the Jesus movement and other forms of Judaism, as
well as for the processes that led to the formation of Judaism and
Christianity as two related but independent religions.
The
primary fields of study included in the journal's purview are:
Christian Origins, New Testament Studies, Early Jewish Studies
(including Philo and Josephus), the Dead Sea Scrolls, Apocrypha and
Pseudepigrapha, Rabbinic Studies, Patristics, History of Ancient
Christianity, Reception History, and Archaeology. Methodological
diversity and innovation is encouraged.
JJMJS is
governed by the editorial committee in accordance with an agreement
between its three academic partner institutions. The Editor-in-Chief and
the Co-editors are responsible for the academic standard and general direction of the journal.
The Journal of World Prehistory
is an international forum for the publication of peer-reviewed original
articles that synthesize the prehistory of an area or of a time-horizon
within a larger region, or describe technical advances of wide and
general application. These overview papers provide in-depth, thoughtful
development of data and concepts in a fashion accessible to all
archaeologists.

The Journal of
Digital History (JDH) is a joint initiative of the Luxembourg Centre for
Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg
and the De Gruyter publishing group.
The journal is intended to serve as a forum for critical debate and
discussion in the field of digital history by offering an innovative
publication platform and promoting a new form of data-driven scholarship
and of transmedia storytelling in the historical sciences. As an
international peer-reviewed open access journal, the JDH will set new
standards in history publishing based on a novel multi-layered approach.
The Journal of Egyptological Studies (JES) is published by the
Bulgarian Institute of Egyptology. It is issued on an annual basis since
September 2004. The JES is a result of the development and expansion of
Egyptology in Bulgaria. It gives Egyptologists an opportunity to
publish new original ideas, new approaches and data in connection with
the language, literature, religion, archeology and history of the “place
where our hearts live”.
While interdisciplinary research into the relational paradigm has
produced an impressive body of work across the social and political
sciences and also, increasingly, among historians, there is as yet no
international medium of publication devoted to the study of networks in
their historical contexts. This has put scholars with an interest in
historical network research—both historians and historical
sociologists—at a great disadvantage, and has meant that they have long
been accustomed to publishing research papers in non-historical
journals. The situation for historians interested in network research is
further complicated by academic and cultural idiosyncrasies, since much
of the groundbreaking and recent research into historical networks in
the English-speaking world has been carried out by historical
sociologists, rather than social historians, and has thus remained
mostly outside the sphere of traditional academic history departments.
This has naturally also influenced the means of publication for research
in this area; preferred journals such as Social Networks and the
American Journal of Sociology focus heavily on methodological and
theoretical aspects. In short, there are no international publications
devoted to the study of networks (social and otherwise) from a
specifically historical perspective.
The Journal of Inductive Biblical Studies intends to promote the
hermeneutical approach to the study of the Scriptures generally known as
Inductive Biblical Studies. By Inductive Biblical Study (IBS) we mean
the hermeneutical movement initiated by William Rainey Harper and
Wilbert Webster White that was embodied in the curriculum of The
Biblical Seminary in New York founded in 1900. This approach had
precursors in the history of interpretation and has since the beginning
of the twentieth-century enjoyed widespread dissemination, being taught
at such institutions as Princeton Theological Seminary, Columbia
Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, Fuller
Theological Seminary, Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries, Azusa
Pacific University, and Asbury Theological Seminary, as well as hundreds
of other institutions and organizations around the world. For more
detailed description of IBS, see Bauer and Traina, Inductive Bible Study: A Comprehensive Guide to the Practice of Hermeneutics (Grand Rapids: Baker, 2011) and the IBS website at http://www.inductivebiblicalstudy.com/.
The Journal of Latin Cosmopolitanism and European
Literatures (JOLCEL) is a peer-reviewed journal which publishes two
issues per year in open access. Our format is dialogical and combines
three articles with a reaction by a respondent. The journal is closely
linked to the activities of the research group RELICS
(Researchers of European Literary Identity, Cosmopolitanism and the
Schools), which aims to develop a large international network of
researchers interested in these themes. RELICS organizes two workshops a
year and regular large conferences.
The Journal of Open Archaeology Data (JOAD) features peer reviewed data
papers describing archaeology datasets with high reuse potential. We are
working with a number of specialist and institutional data repositories
to ensure that the associated data are professionally archived,
preserved, and openly available. Equally importantly, the data and the
papers are citable, and reuse will be tracked. While still in beta
phase, the journal is now accepting papers. We will also be adding new
functionality over the next few weeks, and refining the look and feel.
The Journal of Open Humanities Data (JOHD) aims to be a key
part of a thriving community of scholars sharing humanities data. The
journal features peer reviewed publications describing humanities
research objects or techniques with high potential for reuse. Humanities
subjects of interest to JOHD include, but are not limited to Art
History, Classics, History, Linguistics, Literature, Modern Languages,
Music and musicology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, etc. Submissions
that cross one or more of these traditional disciplines are particularly
encouraged.
The Journal of Religious Competition in Antiquity is a peer-reviewed,
interdisciplinary journal dedicated to exploring competitive
interactions among religious and philosophical persons and groups in the
ancient Mediterranean, including Greeks, Romans, Jews, Christians, and
Muslims. We specifically aim to foster the development of new approaches
and methodologies that highlight contours and nuances of religious
competition between and among these communities and individuals.
Special consideration is given to submissions that are interdisciplinary
in approach and/or employ social-scientific theoretical frameworks. Our
goal is to demonstrate competitive interactions among differing
socio-religious discourses in antiquity and to explore the ways that
these groups mutually influenced each other.
Journal
of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists is an annual academic
journal that publishes specialized research and studies in the fields of
archeology, museums, restoration and Arab national civilizations,
published by the General Union of Arab Archaeologists and the Union of
Arab Universities since 2000 to date. It publishes research studies in
several languages: Arabic, English, French and German and has an
international and regional refereeing committee. Due to the success
achieved by the Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists, the
Editorial Department considered the publication of a new issue of the
Journal in foreign languages, in order to raise the level of academic
research of Arab archaeologists at the international level. There is no
doubt that the Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists is
the result of an archeological academic interaction and movement not
only in Egypt but among all archaeologists in the Arab world from the
ocean to the Gulf. This profound academic product of subjects is not
confined to academic publishing, but is a crucible for academic and
practical rapprochement between the archaeologists, in a sincere attempt
to find a language that is mutually enriching, without programming or
preconditions. Therefore, this convergence succeeded in unifying the
archeological term among archaeologists, in which each researcher
presented his research in a smooth simple language and a term rolling
away from the regional terminology so that each researcher does not
write for himself, but writes in a language of dialogue that is
comprehended by all Arab archaeologists, whether in the East or Morocco.
Thus, the Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists managed
to reach an academic vision and a common research language that was
accepted by many researchers, especially in the field of terminology. In
turn, with the commencement of the new issue of the Union Journal in
foreign languages, we look forward to keeping up with international
publication standards, for the Journal of the General Union of Arab
Archaeologists has obtained the ISI (International Accreditation),the
journal has Impact factor of 0.589 based on international citation
report ( ICR) for the year 2016- 2017 anticipating to reach the desired
objectives.
The Journal of the Hellenic Institute of Egyptology (JHIE)
is jointly co–published annually, in one fascicle, by the Hellenic
Institute of Egyptology (Athens, Greece), by the Archaeological Society
of Alexandria (Alexandria, Egypt) and the cAin Shams University (Cairo, Egypt). The aim of JHIE,
based on the principles of Humanism and the desire for International
Synergies and collaboration between colleagues of different
nationalities that characterize both the Institute and the Society, is
to provide a modern scientific forum for the discussion of a
plethora of aspects, notions and facets from various domains of
Egyptology, Archaeology and Archaeoastronomy, with emphasis on the
religion, funerary texts, language and scripts, Epigraphy, Papyrology,
Sciences (Astronomy, Mathematics, Botany, Architecture, & c.) of
ancient Egypt, as well as Helleno–Roman Archaeology related to Egypt;
furthermore, Coptology is also represented. Interdisciplinarity and
the harmonious interference between various scholarly fields and
disciplines are highly desirable, as is also a general emphasis on the
collaboration of countries all over the Mediterranean Basin,
encompassing studies of individual civilizations (in particular those
related to ancient Egypt and Hellas), as well as common elements,
contacts and interactions among them. Our journal is kindly published,
handled and distributed by Serapis Editions, Athens, Greece. All
payments are due to Serapis Editions, and not to the Institute neither
to the Society.
The Journal of the Orthodox Center for the Advancement of Biblical

Manche Entdeckung, so lehrt
gemacht.
Melita Classica is an additional initiative of the Association. The
present journal is meant to be an annual publication in which
Classicists can find an appropriate forum wherein the fruit of their

articles or material relating to the Classics – writing guidelines are
printed at the end of this journal. The MCA is currently receiving
submissions for Volume 7 until Friday 25th June. For more information on
how to submit to the jounral, please send an email to the Editor at info@classicsmalta.org

PVCRS is very much a companion publication to our ejournal New Voices in Classical Reception Studies and our Eseminar Archive.
All add to the range of resources that are made freely available on
the Open University Reception of Classical Texts Research Project
website. New Voices provides a refereed platform for newer
researchers to publish their work. The Eseminar Archive makes available
the records of the annual seminar that discusses all aspects of
classical reception. Practitioners' Voices is a response to the
growing awareness that Classical Reception research has to recognise
the full range of processes that shape the impact of classical material
in new contexts. Its aim is to provide a Forum in which theatre
directors, designers, dramaturgs, actors, poets, translators, and all
involved in the creative practices that are so crucial to classical
receptions can discuss the relationship between their work and the
classical texts, themes and contexts on which they draw.

Rhea Classical Reviews is
predicated on the beliefs that: (1) book reviews should be a
constructive, conscientious, and helpful evaluation of the work; (2) the
current review model in Classics and related fields does not always
prioritize these qualities; (3) emerging and alternative scholars, and
particularly individuals within equity-seeking groups, would benefit
from a review venue that embraces their contributions as authors and
reviewers.

antiquity and early middle ages, symbolically until the age of

Acting within this tradition, SAMAI is primarily concerned with ancient
history, first of all with history of ancient Greece and Rome. SAMAI
welcomes also texts dealing with history of Europe, Asia and Africa in
early middle ages, especially if their topic relates somehow to
classical antiquity.

Strata: The Bulletin of the Anglo-Israel Archaeological Society
Strata is an annual peer-reviewed academic
journal that seeks to bring the latest studies of the archaeology of
Israel-Palestine and its surrounding regions to a wider international
audience. We welcome articles on many aspects of research that lead to a
better understanding of the archaeology in this region, an archaeology
that is of great interest internationally because of its significance
both for understanding the development of three of the world’s great
religions and for the important history of Israel-Palestine. We are also
keen to have reviews of recently-published books studies on
archaeological topics of the area.
Studies in Ancient Art and Civilization were created in 1991 as an
irregular series which in the first place served as a forum for the
presentation of the Jagiellonian University Institute of Archaeology and
studies provided by its researchers. The series was originated by
professor Joachim Śliwa, who was also its first Editor in Chief, and
since 2010 this function has been fulfilled by professor Ewdoksia
Papuci-Władyka. Since vol. 10 (2007) SAAC has become a regular yearly
periodical. Until present fifteen volumes have been published, among
them two monographic studies (vols. 3 and 11, the latter being Pontika
2006 conference proceedings edited by E. Papuci-Władyka) and three
volumes dedicated to distinguished researchers from our Institute on
occasion of their jubilees (vols. 8 – professor Maria Ludwika Bernhard,
14 – professor Joachim Śliwa and 15 – professor Janusz A. Ostrowski).
SAAC publishes papers in the fields of archaeology, art and civilization
of ancient Egypt, the Near East, Greece and its colonies, Cyprus and
Rome, as well as other, non-Mediterranean ancient civilizations, and
also in history of archaeology, collecting of antiquities and reception
of ancient culture in modern Europe. Special attention is being given to
topics concerning predynastic and early-dynastic Egypt, the Greek and
Roman periods in the Black Sea region, and archaeology of Cyprus, due to
the excavations conducted by researchers from our Institute in these
areas. Objects and artefacts from these excavations are being published
in SAAC.

natura storica e filosofica.

The journal Late Antiquity. Studies in Source Criticism stems from the
book series initiated and edited since 1999 by the community of
researchers focusing on late antiquity that was formed by Ewa Wipszycka.
Seven volumes of the series appeared in print under the common title
Christianity in late antiquity. Studies in Source Criticism, and
presented research papers devoted primarily to the study of historical
sources. The journal continues in the same vein, reserving a privileged
and prominent place for research articles dealing with source criticism.
Its thematic scope, however, is much wider when compared to the series,
especially as it welcomes contributions which deal with multiple
aspects of the late antique world and employ a broad range of
approaches, including methodologies of such disciplines as history,
classical philology, philosophy, papyrology, archaeology and history of
art.

The AWOL Index: The bibliographic data presented herein has been programmatically extracted from the content of AWOL - The Ancient World Online (ISSN 2156-2253) and formatted in accordance with a structured data model.
AWOL is a project of Charles E. Jones, Tombros Librarian for Classics and Humanities at the Pattee Library, Penn State University
AWOL began with a series of entries under the heading AWOL on the Ancient World Bloggers Group Blog. I moved it to its own space here beginning in 2009.
The primary focus of the project is notice and comment on open access material relating to the ancient world, but I will also include other kinds of networked information as it comes available.
The ancient world is conceived here as it is at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University, my academic home at the time AWOL was launched. That is, from the Pillars of Hercules to the Pacific, from the beginnings of human habitation to the late antique / early Islamic period.
AWOL is the successor to Abzu, a guide to networked open access data relevant to the study and public presentation of the Ancient Near East and the Ancient Mediterranean world, founded at the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago in 1994. Together they represent the longest sustained effort to map the development of open digital scholarship in any discipline.
